On June 1, 2017, Word Feast: Fredericton’s Literary Festival announced its inaugural festival lineup at the Fredericton Public Library. Over the week-long festival, running September 18-24, 2017, award winning authors from across Canada will give workshops and readings in venues across the city.
Rebecca Rosenblum, Toronto author of the new novel So Much Love (Penguin Random House, 2017), and recently a finalist for the 2017 Amazon.ca First Novel Award, will headline two events, delivering the first annual Word Feast lecture on Friday September 22 and reading from her novel on September 23.
Rosenblum is also the author of two award-winning collections of short fiction, The Big Dream and Once, which was named one of Quill and Quire's 15 Books That Mattered in 2008. Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Journey Prize, the National Magazine Awards, and the Danuta Gleed Award.
The festival will also feature authors from Vancouver to St. John’s, Newfoundland, including Griffin Prize and Governor General’s Award winning poet Don McKay. Word Feast will also include many New Brunswick authors, including Riel Nason, Allan Cooper, and the recent winners of the second annual NB Book Awards.
Word Feast aims to inspire creativity and foster literacy among readers and writers of all ages, from all walks of life. Authors will visit schools and offer workshops in poetry, fiction, memoir, and graphic novel writing. The festival will also launch the Wolastoq Speakers Series, a lunchtime series of talks on subjects including translation, editing, and self-publishing.
The festival is a legacy project of Fredericton's Cultural Laureate. Further information about the festival will be shared as it becomes available. Follow us on Facebook (https://m.facebook.com/wordfeastfredericton) and Twitter (@WordFeast_Fton) to stay in the know.
